Why bother paying for membership?
It’s a good question as you can sign up and browse eHarmony profiles for free but the biggest reason to upgrade is you get to see photos! Yep, it’s seriously frustrating using the site without being a full member while your left guessing if the potential profile you like is someone you might find attractive or not. Here’s the full list of member benefits below:

The eHarmony Sign Up Process
It’s not the quickest dating site sign up we’ve tested but it’s actually quite eye opening to see what things you find important in a match and what traits you have yourself. The temptation is to make yourself look better than you actually are (don’t we all in the initial stages of dating) but it’s best to be as honest as you can handle as if you end up meeting someone they’ll find out soon enough what you’re really like.

What inspired me?
In one word? Singledom. Picture this: it’s 2006. I was single, bored of bars and decided to try internet dating. I discovered pretty quickly that the massive sites were like global used car yards of single people. The Members seemed totally different to me, and the sites were depressing, impersonal and lacked any real humour or personality. And when I actually went on a date, I realised I didn’t fancy her pretty quickly and three gruelling hours lay ahead.
At about the same time, I was consulting in Canary Wharf. I couldn’t help but notice the hundreds of professional, attractive Londoners rushing to and from the work place just passing each other by. That’s when I had my Lovestruck Epiphany(TM)…I realised that the solution was a dating site that would introduce people like me. Like-minded singletons, who worked near each other, to each other, for short dates.
A site with attitude. A site with verve and pizzazz. One that had a search facility based on the nearest tube station to where you work. And it was perfect to test my dating in London concept on; just think of the 300,000 in the Square Mile, the 110,000 in Canary Wharf. They could test the chemistry for coffee, lunch, after work or - hell - during work!
My vision of where dating is heading
Of course, mobile will play a huge part in the evolving dating landscape, and location-based dating will come to the fore. I believe that, with front-facing cameras, the first date will be conducted via real-time video, and then the daters decide whether the chemistry is there and agree to meet up or call it a day! This is not far away, as Apple has recently issued a patent for such a device on their iPhone!

In addition to getting full access to one of the biggest and most popular dating sites in UK, you’ll also get a free personality test, so why not sign up and see what’s on offer… who knows you might even find your true love. £17.50 is not a lot to ask for that, is it?

Just a little reminder about one of the dating sites also featured in our reviews - Love & Friends. Although it’s maybe not the most popular of all the dating sites out there, it has some very attractive qualities for all those out there who are still in doubt whether to sign up to an online dating site or not.
Love & Friends is a paying site - that means it effectively keeps out most of the bogus profiles and weirdos. Who wants to waste their time on those? At the same time, Love & Friends offers that little bit of extra that other paying sites don’t. Free messages.
Yes, you heard me. Free messaging. That means you get to read your emails to other members AND reply to them too. As a free member you get a quota of replying to three messages every 24 hours (and even more if they ones you’re replying are paying members) and your mail size is limited to 500 characters… but that’s still infinitely more than other paying sites give you.
It comes in so handy for all those out there who are still new to the world of online dating or who hesitate for one reason or another and aren’t keen to pay up before they know for sure that they are interested and that the service can deliver results. A fine gesture by Love & Friends indeed.

It’s not easy to find out how much eHarmony is to join before you’ve actually completed your personality profile (which can take a while!) so we created a profile of our own so you can see up front what the eHarmony prices are.
The image below shows the most up to date eHarmony UK subscription costs and payment plans. It’s good to see the 3 and 12 month prices have dropped considerably since we last checked while the 1 month and 6 month rates have remained the same.

Which subscription’s best for me?
Well unless you’re super confident you can meet your match within a month you’ll get the most value from your cash with the eHarmony 12 month subscription which can be split into 3 monthly payments of £39.80 (over the first three months). Working out at only £9.95 a month it’s a great value way to use the site at your own pace and get to know several potential matches/dates without the added pressure of worrying about the days on your subscription ticking down.
What happens once I’ve signed up?
Once you fill in your first name, email address, postcode and password you then go straight on to eHarmony’s personality profiling questions. It can take 20 minutes or more to complete but it’s worth taking your time on the questions as you’ll be surprised how much they reveal about who you are and who might be a good match for you. Once you’ve completed all the questions you can upload a photo or skip that step and start finding out who eHarmony has recommended as good matches for you.
Until you subscribe you won’t be able to see profile pictures but you can see member profiles to get an idea of how it all works. Keep a look out while you’re browsing the site as you might get a pop up offering you 3 months for the price of one. Don’t know how often it appears but it did for us after an hour or two, nice deal if you can get it.
